Valorization of the palaeontological heritage

The tracksites of the Ajoie district
So far, six dinosaur tracksites have been discovered on the future course of the Transjurane highway on a plateau between Courtedoux and Chevenez (Ajoie district, Canton Jura), and also in the La Combe quarry near Chevenez (Fig. 1).

They are located between the Banné Member and the Marnes à virgula at three time intervals each with biolaminites (named lower, intermediate, and upper levels) each with several levels bearing dinosaur footprints.

Three time intervals each with several levels bearing dinosaur footprints have been identified so far. Ammonites precisely pinpoint the section within the Kimmeridgian (from Marty et al., 2007). © Palaeontology A16.

Totally, over 4200 dinosaur footprints and over 280 trackways have been excavated and documented so far (Table 1).

On the tracksites of the Transjurane highway, considerably large surfaces remain to be excavated over the next few years. To date, four sites have (partially) been excavated, and the first results are briefly summarized here:

- The Courtedoux—Sur Combe Ronde tracksite
- The Chevenez—Combe Ronde tracksite
- The Courtedoux—Tchâfouè tacksite
- The Courtedoux—Béchat-Bovais tracksite
